How to install MBS V5 Brake kit

Starting with a board you wanna put brakes on, a brake kit, 9mm, and your favorite board forum. Next you will want to go thrugh your brake kit and review the instructions and make sure you have everything you need…..
Last thing you want is to get halfway there and find your missing a bolt so be sure to have a large clean surface to work from, I used my picnic table because it was early morning so it was nice out and my work bench is a cluster.

I mounted the brake discs to my twinstar hubs using supplied hardware. This was a fairly easy step as the bolts thread right into the hubs themselves so no nuts required. Make sure you start the threads on all the bolts with spacers under them before screwing them in all the way. After I mounted the rotors I spun them on the axles to make sure the rotors were as true as possible to eliminate rotor wobble. I did this by tightening or slightly loosening the rotor mounting bolts.

Next I screwed in the mounting stud with a 9mm open end wrench, the screws have thread lock on them so your covered there. This mounting stud got some grease on it before I mounted the brake arm.
As you mount the arm you want to make sure the locating pin is where its supposed to be.

The instructions showed to mount the strap that connects the handle to the board here. This strap is to keep you from pulling on the cable when things don’t go as planned. MBS also supplied a longer bolt for this position, I also went back and put a larger washer on top of the stap.

Its now time to route the cable, it goes threw the matrix truck towards the inside of the board. The picture doesn’t show it well but there is a cable strap with a small bolt and nut that hold it in place there.

Loop the cable up the other side and place the cable end on it and crimp it where it slides over the cable shielding. I used electrical connector crimps for this job.
Then slide the assembly threw the brake arm cable retainer and slide on booties.

Now for the part you want to pay the most attention to and that is brake pad contact. This is what slows you so if its not setup right you might die. After mounting the pad you will want to use your other hand to mimic the brake arm actuation and push the pad against the rotor with the mount bolt loose. The with the pad contacting flush and not hanging over the edge of the rotor tighten the mounting bolt.
It should look like this, notice how nice a perpendicular it is to the rotor.

Here is a nice shot of the cable end, after tweaking and fine tuning your brake setup and cable adjustments you will want to cut excess length and crimp the cable with supplied cap. It keeps your cable from fraying, Make sure you have everything adjusted properly before cutting off excess cable, you don’t want to cut it short! The picture also shows me using a screwdriver to adjust preload on the brake arms so they spring back at the same tension.

Now remember that hill that was just a little too fast? Or the big sweeper in the forest that you kept overshooting? Well now its time to tear that shit up!

Hope this thread helps you install your MBS V5 brake systems.
