Sorry for the quietness on this, it's not gone away, just hoped/glad the idea has been kicked around a bit. I was hoping to talk with as many downhillers as possible at this weekends gathering to get a few more thoughts. My worry at the moment is whether a machined aluminium hub would be tough enoug...

Bit more information for you all. Thank you all for your responses so far. We're going to be as open as possible on costings and everything so that it's all transparent. 40 billets will make 40 half hubs = 20 hubs = 5 x set of 4 hubs. Cost per billet (to buy) is £5.40 = £10.80 per hub Matt estimates...

Therefore, in theory you could have a metal inner half and plastic outer half (assuming the knobbly lining up things are accommodated) Ben - lots of technic...

'Manhick-a-likes' - any interest?
Here's the deal. I have a contact, Matt, a precision metal engineer who produces custom motorbike parts for one of the Ducati racing teams and has recently gone part time in order to produce small quantities of parts for private individuals i.e. not bespoke, but not huge numbers that you'd go to chi...
