Very good idea, as when i did one a few years ago it was pretty much gone in a couple f weeks I was gutted, always apply more lacquer than you think!!

If you need to slide on your knees or elbows then hard all the way, as you say riding gravel or dirt there is likely to be an element of slide, has always worked for me.
