Was the first DH comp always on the 6th April? For some reason, I had it as 13th April and already booked that long weekend off.

Do you mean ABS (ALpine Brake System - the hydrolic one) or the MBS V5 brake (cable brake pads)?

ABS is fine for the DH tracks and with some fine tuning people have been using the MBS brake successfully.

The disks are easy - minimoto rotors are 120mm the same as NoSno and are about £3.50 on eBay. Its just getting the mounting down because of the drill patterns, which I dont think would be too hard to sort if you are careful. Using 2nd hand bits off eBay (you can pick up cable disk brakes for £10-£20...

No - there was another guy who popped up on here relatively recently in a random thread who had bodged together a set out of mountainbike cable disk brakes and minimoto disk rotors - something I have been looking at doing. I wanted to check which brake parts he used and how he joined the two cables....

Or mountain bike cable disk brakes - although this will take a little engineering to link two sets together and make the mounts. If you can do metalwork I reckon you could have some kick ass ones for £50.

You'll get very differing opinions on brakes....but the most important thing is - can you manage your speed and stop without them (it looks like you can). I tried the mullet (9's on the front and 8's on the back); it made the back end feel nice and light - but I wasn't a fan over 9's all round.

Yeah - might be an idea to get to grips with stopping and speed control before you take on anything big. Shouldn't take you long though.

We did the 5 passes Dec '11 and Skidaws been done a few times (not that fun IMO).

You been riding long? What sort of board have you got?

Whinlatters only 2 hours up the road from me - let us know if you fancy trying what was the England DH track last year...its fun!
