Boardercross Setups?

Post by Daleyg3 » Thu Apr 25, 2013 7:26 am

With not long til Round 2 Boardercross/Boarder X (& freestyle), I was just wondering how different riders setup their Board for racing?

I'll be riding me new Comp 95 Deck on Matrix Pro Trucks with Red Eggshocks, Primo 8's and MBS Trispoke hubs. Trying to go for something heavy and quick, no idea if it'll work. I've been told many a time to change to different eggshocks or dampas, as I'm quite a light rider at 62kg. Anyway, going off track.. title is the question :)

Drop the Tri-spoke and switch the the Rockstar Pro. You'll lose a good amount of weight. I race on orange eggs typically.

Fair enough, I don't have those hubs but I have twistars which are even lighter, so they'd do. Pretty sure I'll switch to orange.

I think heavy hubs could be an advantage in DBX. I know I never felt my wheels were as fast as when I rode primo alphas on trispokes. It's nice to shave the weight by going with rockstar pros, but sometimes you don't mind the weight.

Are the egg shocks in your board mbs because if they are I would suggest switching to trampa shocks these fit so much better this is what so many people have done me included you can take a look at mine at round 2

When I started off I was using mbs yellows and found I was getting speed wobble so upgraded to mbs reds to find these worked great but with me cranking them down they didn't seem to sit right so I was advised by friend to get trampa reds and I've not looked back if you want a pic I can take one and upload it to show you just need to say

MBS Matrix Hanger conversion

Probably will get some Dampa Reds and try them at Bugs before the comp then :) Think my Matrix Pro trucks sit a bit lower so they're more snug but what harm can £13 do!

The hangers are the same dude a close friend of mine has the kirkman with matrix pros and he's rocking the trampa shocks as well I used his board as the bases for my hanger conversion anywho in a few weeks you'll be able to take a look at both his and my board and you'll see the difference in shocks between ours and yours but yeah for 13 you can't go wrong

Going from mbs yellows to trampa reds sounds a bit over-the-top to me.
You'd go from having to carve your way down at 10mph to having to go straight down at 25mph... catching the infamous 'hop turn' disease on the way :)

Of course it all depends on your weight and riding style...

We will allow slicks on world BX champs, and slicks are faster but could slide away in turns...
anyway, I saw that Polish riders took out eggshocks and put in piece of hard rubber, which can't be pressed and you can turn only with small jumps... no speed wobbling for them

my green dampas got melted squify in the car over summer and now are amasing for freeride but not so brill for the faster stuff. still think new greens can't be beat for versitility.

as for the original question; kind of depends on the track and the type of line you want to ride. yellows = cruise in the park, reds = no prisoners! (to me at least :) )

Gonna try both (obviously) and maybe even a green at the front and red at the back, seen other riders do that.. Although I jib most corners, I don't always feel it's the fastest way around especially if it's tight and you slide it.
