Mountainboard-Longboard Hybrid

Post by BgSurfer » Fri Jun 14, 2013 11:44 am

I put this together for my son with the bad left ankle (4 surgeries). He loves it ...

Thanks to my SD Bruthas MarcBrosnan and Brennig for the wheel suggestions, Bennet Alligators and Abec 11 Gumballs. My son chose the Abec 11 Guballs, 76 mm x 75 A.

MBS Jeep Rennegade deck and MBS ATS trucks (15.75" axles).

very cool, this is what I want to do with my old Earthboard. What size bearings did you use for the conversion?

interesting attempt to close the gap between longskate and mtb...
It's weird that there is no intermediate between 80MM PU wheels and 7/8" tire

BgSurfer wrote:Found these bearing Specs on the MBS site. Looks like ATS/Vector/Atom/Jeep bearings should work for putting skate wheels on All Terrain Skate trucks (ATS):

I used MBS All Terrain Skate trucks which have 9.5 mm axles. I used the 9.5 mm ID x 22 OD MBS bearings (#13021 in the chart above). Skate wheels use a 22 mm OD bearing.

Not sure what you mean when you say "7/8-in tire?"

ABEC 11 makes a 100 mm diam (Flywheels) PU skate wheel. I may try a set on this rig when I am no longer grounded.

Because my son has a bad left ankle, I wanted to put something together that would be a fairly stable cruiser. But it is beginning to look like the rig may end up being a decent carver too.

I haven't ridden it because I have been grounded for medical reasons -- will be for another 3 mos. Would love to take it up for a test flight.

Here is a phone camera short video -- not too great -- of my son riding it the afternoon I finished putting it together. He hadn't been on a longboard in over a year and the bushings (MBS orange, medium duro) were new and "stiff." He pulled off a decent backside rail-grab 180 just the same:

Since then, my son says the trucks have loosened up noticeably. Says it carves well.
