Mountainboard Top Speeds..
Been getting really into going fast on the Longboard recently.. then I thought why haven't I tested my top speed on a Mountainboard? Fastest I've been on my Longboard is 35mph but my mate is yet to take me to a run that you can get 50mph on.
Anyone ever recorded their mountainboard top speeds? I reckon I know a run I could get very close to 30mph on..

The fastest I have gone is 35-40 mph (on road), but legend has it that Pete Tatham got to over 55 mph. (I'm pretty sure I heard that on here somewhere). Off-road I find that 30 mph can be a comfortable speed but anything higher and those rocks and roots seem a whole lot bigger.

Yeah, mountainboards aren't really built for speed, I'd say the main restriction is bindings, you can't get a decent speed tuck with fixed feet. On you're average run you won't get much over 20-25 mph without tucking. As I said, mountainboarding isn't really about going very fast, you can't really take a corner going over 30 mph. But a longboard could take a corner on a decent road (e.g. Angie's curves, that road gives me goosebumps) going 55-60 mph.

I was told I was hitting about 60kmh last year but now I read the above I wander if they were right. long alpine style board with rock hard t2's and springless setup is what I was using. could probley go faster on 10" hubs I guess. but had a big smash around Christmas time that made me reconsider balls out riding. chill runs are where its out whilst your trying to stay out of hospital

for downhill mountainboard, the trick is to find the right place long enough and not too bumpy (otherwise, on road, record is probably similar to skate)...
Powerkite has not such problem (plenty of beaches) and there is a speed record list going on on kitecrowd.com/ ...
50+ mph
Akkrew rider = 53.19mph (gps) Libre Longrider & Flysurfer Speed 4 8m http://youtu.be/IcVwtRCbWCc
Spooky = 52.7mph (gps) D-Ex + 6m Access. 30-36mph winds NE Scotland
40-50 mph
Butch = 49.2mph (GPS) Quadrolution & 8m Ozone Manta III
DS1 SWAT = 48.7mph (gps) (dirtsurfer&kitewing)
airjunkie = 46.8mph (gps) 11m Frenzy + "The Plank"
Blade Magnet! = 46.5mph (GPS) D-Ex with Revos and 6m Access2
ArcAngel = 46.4 mph (GPS) 10m Venom + "The Plank"
DS2 Froggy = 45.4mph (GPS) (dirtsurfer&kitewing (4.8))
Kitecrazy = 44.5mph (gps) 10mtr Blade vertigo and scrub pro 90
Angoose = 43.7mph (gps) (short trampa skate deck & 9.5m Best Kahoona)
Jugglerjon = 42.0 mph (GPS) Core 16 + 16 Venom 2.
DS3 Foilman = 41.8 (gps) (Dirtsurfer & Phantom 9m)
captain caveman = 41mph (gps) 13m venom CKB on skates
ArdK = 40.8 mph (=65,7 km/h) (gps) MBS Comp95, 12m Ozone Catalyst, wind 20-22 knots @ IJmuiden, NL
Jfitz = 40.5mph (GPS) with 7m frenzy and a trampa (skate trucks)
The Saminator= 40.0mph (GPS) 7 1/2st person, Revos + 2m Elliot magma
SD should do the same...

would be pretty cool actually. dont think many people have an accurate way of measuring though. might be wrong though, maybe with a smart phone app?
