Back in the day alot of the skate spots down on the south coast where i lived had big long solid lumps of plastic we called liquorish sticks. 200mm wide 300 high and about 5m long. They where amazing to grind with a bit of speed you could easily hit the whole length. Board slides were more dodgy as they were frictionless so you'd end up on your arse alot.
I think it was the wise old yogi sage of knock hill that said you can grind anything. So i say build one and find out.

put enuf lube on it and you can grind anything ! benches are wood and they slide, kerbs are concrete and they slide, rails are metal and they slide, i havent tried glass, but i have jibbed a bale of waste paper, that recycled plastic stuff would be great to build with and last for ages, oh yeah i tried ice too, it dont grind

that used to work a treat in chilly England but in Israel...melty melty waxy. anything you leave outside during the day will get to 40-50C in no time..especially in the sun. wax is pretty useless here...
but yeah speed is the key! but still our trucks are hard as hell but what we grind has to be at least tough or the trucks just dig in on contact (even with an acute angle of approach)
