channel trucks with 15 degree deck?

Post by Ben » Tue Apr 08, 2014 12:35 pm

hey all,

a friend is about to buy his first board and is going for a trampa 15 degree short with skate trucks.

i was wondering if it would be possible for him to (in future) upgrade to channel trucks? or does the 15 degree deck mean he can only ride skate?

was thinking maybe a wedge could compensate?

Channel trucks need the additional tip angle to provide the leverage to function properly.

You could wedge it, but you would have to custom build the wedges.

All the off-the-shelf wedges I have seen are shaped and drilled for the skate truck plate pattern.

If you go with making your own wedges, a good source of material would be a plastic cutting board made of HDPE (High Density Polyethylene). It cuts easily with hand tools and cuts smoothly with power tools. For the latter, just make sure you keep the cutting speeds down to reduce melting. Finally smoothing can be done with sanding paper. The materials tends to clog files too fast for productive work.

Sam

Skate trucks already have some king pin angle built into the truck which allow tighter turning on a deck with 15 degree tips.
Channel truck king pin angle is that of the deck tips. Also, the channel trucks will cause 15 degree tip decks to ride much higher, higher center of gravity.

Alltho risers would certainly work, maybe dremmeling the baseplate angled footprint in to the deck would mean you wouldn't get the extra height. Being a trampa it should be strong enough to take riding forces even tho it would be thinner.
