Meet-Ups Map

Post by leapb4ulook » Sat Nov 14, 2009 7:27 am

After reading the 'Who here rides alone' thread it seems lots of people do. And a mate of mine was saying how he doesn't know of any riders in his area to go out riding with. So, I started thinking.... what about a googlemaps page of riders locations so other riders could look for people to meet up with. You wouldn't have to use you exact address if you're worried about stalkers, just a nearby town centre, and you could include as much or as little contact info as you like, i.e. full name, phone number, email, & facebook link, or just username and email. What do you think? Would any of you guys be interested in being on it?

Cool. Send me your location and the contact details you want included and I'll add you to the Meet-ups Map.

I'd sign up ,but I'm really pretty sure there isn't another rider within 300 miles +.
But if anyone ever makes it any where near Northern Ohio,up by Cleveland.... I'd love to show off my trails and roads I ride.

If that's what you'd like to do, put them on your own googlemap, send me te link and i'll add them to the Mountainboard Ride Guide. It'd be good to get some trails I'll never visit. :)

I think that is sort of the point. I cant say Kent is swarming with riders, but since putting up the site we have met up with half dozen riders, all doing there own thing locally that we never knew existed .

I've added you but with your name as 'The 6th degree' and your contact via your SD user page. Let me know if you want it changed, or you can do it if you like.

And Preston. Not all that far from Whinlatter. You coming?

Cheers - you can put that name down or Chris - SD contact is probably best.

Wish I could join you at Whinlatter but I made arrangements to visit my family months ago and cant get out of it.

Leapb4ulook, just a suggestion, since you can not only add points but regions too, would it be worth getting some of the teams/groups/crews (Team BAD/MEBA/Kent ATB) to mark on their territory or usual stomping areas as a rough overall shape? I've got a feeling that a similar map used to be on the old ATBA pages. That way, anyone new joining the map can see not only who is close, but perhaps that they are in a groups region.
As always, just thinking out loud, feel free to ignore, the maps working fine as it is!
Cheers!

I think it's great idea. I've seen a googlemap for the regional clubs somewhere. I'll see if I can find it and ask to use it, or at least link to it. Thanks for the suggestion:)

Good idea not sure how you will work it though, Speaking from a kent point of view. We have half a dozen intensely developed spots , but odd trails all over the place.

Kent has been added into the meet ups map . It will serve the purpose of if people are in the area they know how to get in touch with the relevant people .

We cover mainly East Kent - (which is the hilliest part) and a bit of mid, slowly expanding out. I get the odd email asking me from time to time , what is in the west of kent. Stock answer not much .
