Ok.. Skate Trucks or Channels..

Post by swifty » Wed Dec 22, 2010 7:25 am

OK.. this is probably going to sound really nooby of me as I have been boarding for a while but me and my friend are building up the same frankinstien deck and was wondering about what trucks to get.

Obviously the main question is channel or skate? we have been told skate trucks is more for kite boarding but as we are both free stylers we love the lightness of the board. I have been riding with MBS skate trucks for a while but just want a opinion of you more experience riders :)

Thanks.

im not big into freestyle, but have been known to dabble. My personal preference is channel trucks just for the versatility and carvability. But if the skate trucks give you the control you need and you like the weight of them for freestyle I say stick with them. Now if you want to open up more lines and have more control over your board upgrade to channels. These are one man's opinions, so take it with a grain of salt, but Im sure more than one will agree with me on this, if not everyone.

Channels all the way man, I started off on Skates, when i finally upgraded to MBS Matrix it was like riding a different board, unbelievable difference!

Yes the channels will be slightly heavier but they more than make up for it with stability and control. Best of all you can adjust them to suit your riding style / terrain!

For what its worth Im riding vertigos now, i couldn't recommend them enough! :D

I've had some of my best competion seasons while riding skate trucks. I won one National Championships on them, and also learn to ride vert bowls on skate style trucks. With that being said, I now only ride channel trucks and have for about the past 5 years. Its the rider that makes the board perform, and not the board that makes the rider perform. Have fun and ride what you like!!!!

I've ridden both. Channels offer way better responsiveness and more performance options.

i like both for difrtent ride but for functionality go with channels just cause you can do the same and more then a skate truck the only time to consider wieght is if you are jumping and if you are too heavy then go faster a half pound wont be that noticeable either
they are stronger and you wont really ever replace bushings either

Yeah channels all the way. Look at what the top riders are using. No skate trucks anymore!

i used to ride skate trucks till I was about 14... i did big drops (10-12ft), big jumps, lots of stuff... loved them

one day, i snapped a front axel and went face first (off the big bugs drop) from then i've been matrix all the way

Channels, just upgraded from skates so much more control and not to mention you can tweak them perfect for your riding

Went to Bugs on Saturday, started with Vector trucks and was all over the place. Any faster than walking pace and the wobbles started. A quick (not so quick) change to some MBS channels and I was well away. I was amazed at the difference.

What about cubes. I would really like an opinion. Because the Flame truck design really caught my eye.(german manufacturer)
