6 and boarding

Post by Ceej » Tue Apr 24, 2012 3:53 pm

Hello all, I am new to the sport and my 6 year old son is wanting to go boarding with me. What would be a good board for a young boy a 6?

Look on eBay for a Scrub Lion Canyon or MBS Atom, should get one for £40-60 used.

I was thinking of suggesting that but it takes effort and finding the key for the shed ... I think the main thing is, small stance width and small wheels.

skateboards are pretty shitty, no flex, pretty stiff, plus the tail and nose i think you would have redrill the board for trucks

atb trucks are just giant skate trucks and will work on a skate deck. Something tells me a five year old isnt going to notice the lack of flex. I recommend getting the 7 inch complete decks from MBS for this project.

my three year old rides and MBS atom 80X it comes with a hand brake. he hasnt figured out the turning part and his hand are too small for the brake but every thing else works fine. he learn with the trial by fire method. the four year old can turn it some and even work the brake she does fine aswell.
just pad them up ditch the wife and teach them to suck it up and shrug it off if they fall. just tell them "it happens some times". teach them that tha pads work too. we playd in the yard for a few hours and crashed on on knees so they could break them in some.

You guys have alot of good ideas. I might need to take his street board and convert it for dirt or not be a cheap ass and just purchase a board for him....

My son is 9 now and I am looking at a used Ambush board for him. Is this a good entry level board?

No first hand experience, but looked it up online. At 17 lbs. Its heavier than any board MBS currently makes. The 9" tires are going to make it harder to push. The old free flex bindings may not be great for his small feet. I'm not sure, but the distance between bindings may make for uncomfortable wide stance. The ambush is something to consider if you can get an amazing deal, but it would not be my first choice.

I found an Ambush for $50 with bindings and the brake system. The board doesn't look like it has been used much. I would like to have him on the hills instead of infront of the TV playing Minecraft. LOL

sounds good at $50. My kids 4. He really has gotten into riding lately. Lucky for me, he asks to mountainboard everyday and has no interest in video games.
