Any and all mountainboarders in the UK, can you do us a favour and complete this short survey. Thanks very much.

The results of the survey, and some analysis, are on the ATBA-UK Blog.

Interesting, so your estimating around 350 mountain boarders in the UK?

No, we estimate approximately 3720. That's 120 'competitive' riders (compete in ATBA-UK competitions), 600 'recreational' riders (part of the community but don't compete), and 3000 'hobbyist' riders (not part of the community but ride occasionally). These figures come from the ATBA-UK database and modelling through the pyramid growth framework that we use as part of our 'Pathways' model. Our aim is for the ATBA-UK to have engaged with (via the newsletter, facebook, freeride meets, etc.) at least 50% of this total by 2015. but the hobbyist riders are the hardest ones to get...

Interesting results. I wouldn't have guessed the figure to be so high. Is it possible to cross reference this against sales figures or are there too many variables for that?
Mountain boarding has become my third sport this year. I longboard on a daily basis as part of my commute. Second there is kite landboarding. Although the wet start to the year put paid to a lot of that time and I haven't boarded more than a dozen times this year.
Trailing far behind is mountain boarding. I'd be lucky if I had six sessions this year. This is due to a combination of factors. Primarily I live in a flat area so locations are limited and usually require travelling. Also as its flat wet riding is out. There isn't enough gradient to ride in the wet as the mud just slows you down before you can get any speed up.
Personally it's been a bad year for me sports wise. Work, family, the Olympics, finance and other things have gotten in the way. As there is a large number of boarders fall in my age range I guess a lot of people have faced similar issues.
I love to attend an event but it just wasn't possible this year. Maybe next. I definitely rate myself in the not skills enough category but it would be nice to attempt a course at an event even if it was in stages just to get my skill level up.
Also attending events means travelling and that usually entails the whole family going which means sorting out time and somewhere to stay. Long term plan is to get some sort of van to solve that one.
As the kids get older hopefully they'll head in a similar board sports orientation so it will give me more of an excuse to get to events.
Appreciate the work the ATBA does and maybe just maybe I'll be able to swing a trip next year and get to meet you all.
