How to find riding spots easily?

Post by BlueZulu » Sat Dec 08, 2012 3:27 pm

Hi folks!

I'm a newbie who travels a fair bit in my line of work. I intend to carry my mountain board around.

I like the riding spots section in this forum very much. Does anyone know how you can find great places around the world to ride?

Many thanks in advance!

another good way is just to post where your going and people might know a nice spot or be able to guide you, also check mountain bike forums/maps etc as their terrain is often compatable with ours.

US, UK or elsewhere? If you are in the UK just grab a OS map, jump in your car and keep your eyes open. See a nice looking track or patch of forest, grab your map and mark it down. I always keep an OS map with me.

I'm based near Machynlleth so I'm not too far away, plenty of downhill available between me and you.

Do you drive? I'm happy to hit tracks on Sunday without brakes (because there are no lorries), you can use my brakes until you get a hang of speed. What board do you have?

My usual track has plenty of space to slide but is busy with traffic on weekdays, there are loads of other ones we can do anyday of the week but they're usually better with brakes. I can sell you some ABS channel mounts, you just need to get hold of the magura brakes though.

Awesome idea - Creating an App

Hmm.. thanks Brennig, never thought abt it that way. I assume OS map is a physical map rite?

And rest of you guys.. you guys rock. Thanks for the info all!

After searching around high and low for a while to get a good way to find spots, I've started creating an Apple iPhone app for this (app development is a hobby of mine)

Do you guys know what would be awesome to put in this App?

Might be worth having a chat with LeapB4ULook about mountainboarding apps - we've had a talk about it a few times and come up with some ideas.

Urgh, I've had my fair share of farmers. Some invite you in for tea and take you to the best spots, whilst others just point chase you, send dogs on you, or threaten to shoot you. Every field is a minefield.
