Which heelstraps should I get?

Post by Dogwalker » Fri May 03, 2013 5:27 am

Okay so I might be able to get some heelstraps this month. It looks like it's between Trampa and MBS right now, but both seem to have their flaws. The Trampa ratchets seem to go quite fast and MBS' hardware is too short and hard to fit. So the question is, which ones should I buy?

Get these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-Pairs-ATB-heal-straps-/181130643851?pt=UK_SportingGoods_OtherSports&hash=item2a2c3a498b. There are the best heel straps ever. Mine have lasted eight years.

Thanks for the advice Ben, my other idea was to get some camlocks to replace the ratchets. That way, even if I preferred ratchets on the heelstraps, I could put my F4 ratchets on and put the camlocks on the F4s.

not a bad idea. I have camlocks on my F4s, and normal trampa ratchets on my trampa heelstraps.

Yes trampa ratchets do brake pretty easy, but they only go floppy and still work. Mine have been like that for years now and still function.

MBS FX II Heelstraps hard to fit? News to me. Love mine, feel so secure. Only once has a screw come out of the F4s and that took 4 months..

still havent copied jasper idea! completely forgot about that!

having been riding for 4 years with ratchets on both heels and toe strap i can definitely say its pointless, you will always want one to be fixed (cam locked). also jaspers point about the ratchets still working is spot on, its only a little return spring that breaks making the ratchet arm not sit nicely in its place.

do you think you will ratchet in from the heel or the toe binding?

Hmmm not sure whether I'd have the ratchets on the toe or heel - I guess I'll have to try it both ways and see. What do you prefer?

personally ive always thought it makes more sense to have the heels fixed and toes ratcheted but my F4s ratchet seem to get stuck so i developed the habbit of doing it the other way round, now i have Burton ratchets i could swap really....

by having the heels fixed you can basically position your foot perfectly (toe and heel wise) over the edge of the deck.

Never used the MBS FX 2's but i have found that while most trampa stuff is real solid, their ladder straps can be a little brittle

Hmm brittle ladder straps you say Michael? This is becoming a tough choice. Has anyone else felt that the Trampa ladder straps are brittle?

Yeah I see what you mean, makes sense to me aswell. I've also noticed my F4s getting a little stuck. And you don't want to pull on them too hard for fear of snapping the plastic bit.

both good

Post by LivEviL » Fri May 03, 2013 3:28 pm

I have both. MBS pro2 cam locks on my PRO 100 HAND and Trampas ratchets on my Holy Pro.
I think they are both good. It really depends on the set up you want I have Luxury Velcro Bindings on my trampa so I use the heel straps to ratchet open and slide my foot out, on my MBS I have F4's that i use to ratchet open and step out of.

Haha yeah, but I'd rather not snap it in the first place if I can help it.

I think brittle was a little harsh, i've found MBS ladders to be much stronger.
