Isn't there a dude sponsored to ride these?
Popped up on my news feed.
Just by how they look, they seem iffy
I would love to see them evolve into a sort of waveboard hybrid. Maybe on the lines of a dirtsurfer?
I'm picturing one with some sort of torsion middle
Also they look like they're made out of hollowed out plastic.

I don't think I'd want to ride one of those... Same reason I don't ride freaking scooters/dirt scooters. 4 wheels or nothing.
If they made it a rip-stick type deal, it might be a cool idea for flat trails, but still hard to see getting into it.

I do like how portable they seem. Anyone who has ever been backpacking with a mountainboard will probably agree with me that those things are pretty damn cumbersome to lug around.

Usually if I'm hiking with my board, I either attach a rope leash to the front and pull it behind me, or I use a snowboard strap that wraps the board onto my back, but I do see your point on the backpacking. You've already got the weight and cumbersomeness (< that even a word?) of the pack and everything else you're carrying. another 20 pounds strapped to your back is just that much worse that much faster.
