From my personal experience, the learning curve is a lot harder for surfing than for mountain boarding. The ocean is always changing, moving, and often very powerful. In 1993, I almost drowned after severely dislocating my shoulder, and getting caught in a heavy impact zone surrounded only by a rocky cliff. 1 year later I started riding XT dirtboards, and came up with my catch phrase " I'll never drown in the dirt! ". I have many surf and dirt stories ... I love them both :)
