Maintenance check list for Mountainboarders

Everyone gets lazy from time to time but when you lose a bolt, screw, or other piece of hardware while out riding you may end up doing some damage to either yourself or your board. You can avoid these types of problems by checking the items on the following list before and after each ride.


Binding bolts - make sure they are snug all the way around, for some reason these things tend to come lose fairly often

Ratchet screw - Open the ratchet as if you were going to loosten your bindings and tighten the screw with a screwdriver.

Axle nuts - Check that axle nuts are neither too tight nor too
loose. Wheel should spin freely, but without any side to side
movement. Nylon insert must fully engage the axle threads.

Hub bolts - Check that all hub bolts are tight.

Tires - Check for wear and tear. Replace bald tires.

Tubes - Check that all tires are at even and appropriate psi.

Bearings - Remove dirt. Replace bearings if they do not spin
freely.

Top Hat Hardware - Check that all top hat bolts are tight.

Springs - Check for over-compressed springs. Replace if
necessary.

Deck bolts and nuts - Tighten all bolts and make sure your adjustment screws are at the level you want them.

Grip Tape - Clean with scrubbing brush after each ride.
Replace worn grip tape.

Bindings - Tighten all nuts and bolts.

Clean and wipe board dry after each ride.

After checking all criteria above, you may opt to perform the "drop test".
Drop board flat onto all four wheels from a height of 1 foot (30cm).
Tighten any hardware that rattles. Repeat this test until your

Anybody with some solid maintenance tips for GI Boards and their respective hardware? Most of these were taken from an old MBS Owners Manual.

new bindings with ratchets raddle so it messes up the drop test but besides that a great read!
