First Time Buying Advice

Post by DamoH » Sat Jan 19, 2013 6:01 pm

Hi all. Looking to get into mountain boarding this year, but having a bit of difficulty choosing the right board. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm looking to spend around £200 on something second hand

I'm 5'10"and 15 1/2 stone

Not going to be using a kite.

Seen a board with the following spec on ebay starting at £150, any good?

MBS Comp 95 (2010 deck)
Matrix trucks with
Green trampa dampas (A good balance between maneuverability and stability)
F4 bindings (Both foot and heel straps)
Yellow twister hubs
Bronze trampa brackets

Cheers in advance for your replies

p.s. I'm in the UK

yeah that would be a good board, except maybe a bit flexy for your weight. but second hand you dont often see stiffer board set ups like the pro100 so this would work or a comp 16 like this one

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MBS-Comp-16-Pro-Mountain-Board-Mountainboard-/221177341438?pt=UK_SportingGoods_OtherSports&hash=item337f3265fe

or if you spot a trampa board 17 ply or more it could be good too.
what kind of riding do you intend to do?

I agree, the comp 95 might be a bit short for you. If you're not in a rush I'm in the process of putting together some boards to sell. I've got a long trampa, comp 16 and a scrub GLD-dh, all of which are more your size and will be in your price range. And I'm only in oxford so we could meet up and you could test ride them before you decide which one suits you.

Buy the Comp and I'll sell you a Trampa 17 long deck to go with it.

Thanks for the replies.

Going to be using the board for freestyle sort of stuff at the centres, as I have a mountain bike for the trails. So I'd like something easy to learn to jump with.

Really like the Trampa boards. How much did you want for yours Mark?

Leep, any idea when the boards might be ready? I'm guessing you're buying the parts as you go so that's probably quite hard to answer. Is your Trampa 17 ply?

Do you know which graphics the Leon has (plane or cat)? £150 is a good price as long as the deck is still in good condition.

Unfortunately theres no pics posted on the ad, but they're going to send me some tomorrow. Is there much difference between the decks with the different graphcs on them?

Also, are the Trampa decks much better than the Leon?

Ok, so patience got the better of me (perhaps watching all those videos wasn't a good idea!), and I bought the above Comp 16. It looks to be in very good condition, and I got it at a good price.

The only thing that worries me now is that is there going to be too muce in the deck? Anyone know if the Trampa 17 would be better for a rider of my weight?

I started off in my 17 long at 20 stone. Now I'm 14.5 and on a 15 short. Rider weights for each deck can be found on the Trampa website.

I'm looking for £75 plus postage for my 17 long. I have the old bolt kit on it but you should have everything you need on the Comp. The good thing with the 17 long is you can cut it if you want a shorter, thinner and more flexible deck if you find it too stiff for you.

It's in the loft so just shout if you want it. I have thought about chopping it but I don't have the time.

Leap, the Leon has the plane graphic on it if you're still interested. The person selling it says it's in exelent condition. Their phone number is in the Gumtree ad that I linked above. Also they did offer to post it.

Did you win the noSno Jasper?
