the usual set of questions:
1) age
2) weight
3) riding style and intentions (if you know from skateboarding or something of the sort. do you ride loose or tight trucks, will you be carving, jumping, jibbing etc)
4) riding terrain (street/ skatepark/ woodland/ field / gravel track/ packed dirt etc)
I strive to ride as much as a go on http://www.surfingdirt.com/forum

lets start with mbs brand stuff,
given your size you are looking at either 'pro' or 'comp' level setups as the rest will not really be weight appropriate. if you want kiting as option a comp 90 could be the best option for both worlds...but be warned the trucks aren't quite as hardly as they are on non kite boards (ie 95, 100 models) but if your not doing big jumps or crashing into trees too often you should be completely fine lol.

i think the 100 model is probably a wast of money for your + its stiff nature wont be ideal in my opinion for kiting nor for freeride (it is a matter of preference though). the comp 95 model is probably just as good a bet as the comp 90 and as i said it is "stornger" however its also quite a bit heavier which for a beginner is even more of a big deal...yeah ok i change my mind...90 is better for you i think lol

there are other brands around but much less so if your in the US...which im guessing you are?

other wise trampa is a cool and very customization option and the board can also be cut and altered which i think might interest you...

very much a matter of budget if you are in the UK or Europe and you want cheaper...Scrub is also a decent enough brand (certainly as a first board).

I would suggest the new comp 95 as a first board. You'll start out with a solid board and have lots of options to upgrade/ customize. I would search for a gently used board first. If you can find a comp 16 pro, pro 95, pro 100, or a trampa (anything with 35 degree tip angles) on craiglist they would be great used boards.
I live cement. I hate this street. Give dirt to me.
