What is the American perception of the UK?

Oh, welcome back Felix.

No one in Britain denies that our ancestors committed some atrocities. And they are inexcusable. The Empire had its bad bits, yeah, but in case you never realised most of Europe was imperialist in the 19th Century. The French, the Prussians, Austria-Hungary, the Ottoman Empire. We were just the most successful. :p Not really sure why you felt the need to hate on Britain quite so quickly?

After all, if this is going to turn nasty, is America the land of the free?

Freedom has been slipping away in America but it is about to make roaring comeback.

That is, unless the legions of the ill-informed and unethical vote for Obama's European Socialism in America. It could happen. Most Americans have been dumbed down to where they can be bought with an Obamaphone or a smaller insurance savings for a few years or participation in conspicuous compasionism.

There is no need to be nasty. I wasn't. I was just responding to a question. I don't hate Britan. I just posted some facts in response to a list of half-opinions.

If you referring to my list then it's a full opinion and not a half one.

The rise of the British Empire made the U.S. the country it is today. European settlers, particularly the English migrants, settled not because of their oppressed viewpoints but because they did not want to tolerate a multicultural society.

Something that with you seams to have stood the test of time.

@Felix

Let's not forget you killed your own people to keep oppression alive, 1861–1865.

Huh? Are you saying the first American settlers were practicing white flight? What other cultures were populating England that they were fleeing? Wow, that's about the dumbest thing I have ever heard in my entire life.

What made America the country it was before the American Cultural Revolution was freedom, individualism and building up our industries to create a war machine that saved your asses from the Germans and made the US into a manufacturing giant.

One of my mates was a squaddie and as the story goes they got into a fight with some locals while in Canada, one of the lads stuck the head on a local, they freaked out and ran off shouting...

'Oh my God!! That guy just hit him with his face!!'

One of the funniest quotes I've ever heard.

Best post I've ever seen.

Agreement.

It was good but would have been better with mountain boarding.

Anyway, here's my input (some from experience, others from a mixture of unproven theory/explanation. Plus some factoids (bite-sized facts) that, again, may or may not be true)...

As I've been told about the U.K....:

*The weather is shit.
*There's litter everywhere.
*Too many people living in such a small space(?)
*There's problems understanding the variety of accents.
*It's expensive.
*Service is terrible.
*Our roads have roundabouts!

At this point in time I've been writing this reply for nearly 2 hours. I'd like to say that it's because it's been carefully considered, but in reality it's because I've been watching Aliens and The Thin Red Line and I've also been drinking alcohol... (Maker's Mark, for extra bonus points).

I'm gonna power through the rest of my thoughts...

U.S. History in a nutshell:

English, amongst others, settled on the east coast.
Settlers were mainly the religiously persecuted and some adventure seekers.
Discovery, hardship, bravery and disease.
Thanksgiving.
Taxes.
No Political Representation.
War.
Independence.
Louisiana purchase.
Immigration.
Oppression.
Oppression again.
War.
More Oppression.
Cultural/Industrial/Economic Evolution.
War.
Consumerism.
World Police.
