Hello (boarder x questions)
Hello Everybody,
I'm new to mountain boarding and just got my first board, A Scrub Psycho II.
I originally intended on just doing a bit of land boarding but I just don't have that much of an interest in the kite since getting the board. I've been out a few times since having it on some grassy slopes and have nailed the basics, j-turns, carving, scrubbing, sliding. And I'm just starting to take on some more challenging terrain.
However the point of the thread is to get some advice on boarder x,
I'd like to compete in this but I'm not sure how much experience I should get? The first round in the UK is in May and I've only seen it on you tube,
What should I do to make myself ready for it and could I do it before may?
Thanks in advance for any advice,
Paul

There isn't really much you can practice unless you have a track to practice on. If you can practice getting small amounts of air somewhere that may help a little, and try to ride a slope with varying gradients if you can so you get used to going from mellow to steep and steep to mellow pretty quickly.
Come to the comp anyway - you can work your way up the track from the bottom, build your confidence and then decide whether to race or not once you've had a go. You'll get a chance to meet other riders and most people will be happy to help if you ask
See you there!

As Matt said - you need a track to practice - boarder x is a track with obstacles, so you have to learn how to ride on rollers, table tops, step ups, big and small curves...
if you have skate park near by, you can practice pumping on mini ramp..., do some small jumps on various terrain - steps. drops, hoopsers, kickers...
but mainly - learn to ride you board and feel safe on it.
And your powerslide must be perfect

go for it, just arrive on the friday and teach urself the track a bit. Worst comes to worst, u let the other riders go in front and u just enjoy the ride down at ur own pace.

Imho the weirdest thing is riding in such close proximity to other people. Get some practise in riding physically near to a friend/others. This will get you prepared for being chased, snaked, cut-up, pushed, shoved, over-taken etc so it's not such a scary shock. Basically visit a centre before the comps and practise with others, all at the same time. A couple of hours drive is seriously worth it

I didn't know there was a uni team at plymouth.
I'm fairly close to a bmx track, moto x track, enduro track and I'm good mates with a farmer too so I suppose I could always attempt their tracks if they would be any good? The moto x one is half down and half uphill, the others are flat.
I left a message on the answer phone for the local centre so I'm waiting to hear on that.
I've been to the local skate parks teaching my self how to air, 180 and alleyoop too
