dirt windsurfing?

Post by jackinator » Thu Jul 10, 2014 7:43 pm

Does anyone have recommendations on choosing a board to make a dirt windboard? That is a mountain board with a windboard sail, sorry not sure if that term is familiar here, the local scaters don't know it. Here in southern California, there is never snow, & aside from our yearly storm rarely any rain, and the mountains aren't exactly accessible to me, i got nothing but flat ground and dirt fields that occasionally have the dead weeds plowed over here in the center of thorn valley. I've had more flat tires on the roads here on my commuting mountain bike here then I ever had in the city. so anything that could support a 6 foot 145lb dude, a 10sq.ft. sail and is thorn proof any suggestions?

I'm not exaggerating about the thorns my mountain bike got a flat tire riding it on the road with an inner tube filled with slime and wrapped in two other inner tubes that had died previously. By the way I should mention that my budget is practically zero and nothing can be purchased locally unless home depot of wallmart carry it although i'm not apposed to spending hours building from scratch. eventually i might be able to buy something of better quality

I would say the longer the board the better, but apart from the comp95x, which also comes with bigger 9" wheels (not sure if you want 8", it's a matter of preference), there's not much choice in terms of board length. If you can find an MBS comp95x, it should be a good board for dirt windsurfing.

There is a scuba shop on King Faisal, try that. Maybe Sunset beach or ARAMCO beach...

so i've picked up a 5.2 Neil Pryde sail, 1 matrix pro, 2 ats w/ 4 wheels and a break, yet I'm still not sure about a board. I'm broke now, but if I knew what I was looking for I could start planning. I should probably look for a helmet too, I haven't had enough concussions to think I don't need one.

mbs lists the comp 95 as a stiffness of 3 and the pro 95 as a stiffness of 5, any non-abstract hints as to what that means? comp95x isn't sold anymore, I suspect the whole board line is about to change as well.

What joy, what fun, what delight....to be children and be allowed to do these types of things is such an unreal experience for them!
if you find it cheaper price elsewhere, we're willing to give your credit towards your campervan relocations

Not sure how old the website is, but you might want to look at
https://www.terrasailindustries.com/decks/

The specs for the boards don't seem outrageous. Actually they look fairly modest.

Things get more interesting when you look at their windsurfing rigs:

You simply need a long deck and 9" wheels (google speedsailing for more) for cruising...

Otherwise, they were guys doing freestyle tricks few years ago ( google dirtwindsurfing or buhala board)
